Beth Crowley is a young witch that lives in the city of Avalon. Many people live in the bustling city ranging from mere mortals, to magical folk, to grumpy goblins, and passionate ogres. It's modern day and technology exists, but most people rely on the magic of the world.
[[Continue->Beth]]Beth is a student at Avalon University where she studies witchcraft. She likes to experiment with spells and potions. However, her latest experiment with a healing potion didn't go as expected. Nothing happened actually. Strange.
She makes her way to school as she ponders. //Where did I go wrong?//
That's when it hits her. Instead of Lavender, she added Fox Gloves. Poison.
[[Continue->The Cafe]]Beth freezes. She could come up with a cure quick, but she lost track of how long the poison was in her system. She didn't have much time she feared.
Beth walks by a cafe. One thing's for sure, she needed water for the quick cure she needed to brew. She rushes inside.
[[Continue->Enter]]Beth rushes in. She spots a hostess at the front of the cafe. She rushes over.
[["Excuse me, can I get a glass of water?"]]
[["Hey...I've got an issue and I need your help."]]
[["Listen, I don't have the time to chat. I need water. Now."]]
The hostess shakes her head, "I'm sorry, but the cafe can't serve you unless you're seated at a table."
She points to the seating area where there are tables filled with people. Not an empty seat in sight. This doesn't look good.
[["How long is the wait for a table?"]]
[["What gives? It's just a glass of water!"]]
[["I don't have time to wait for a table. I need the water now."]]The hostess gives Beth a concerned look, "Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. What's the problem?"
[["I'm not feeling so good. Can I have a glass of water?"->"I -- uh -- mixed up Lavender for Fox Gloves and now I could be poisoned."]]
[["Hard to say. I need the water now or it's going to be a really bad problem."->"Listen, I don't have the time to chat. I need water. Now."]]
[["It's difficult to say it out loud, but an experiment went wrong and now I need water to cure myself before the effects take place."->"Excuse me, can I get a glass of water?"]]
The hostess purses her lips. "And I don't have time to deal with you. If you want water, you'll have to put your name on the list."
[["I don't have time to wait for a table. I need the water now."]]
[["I'm sorry I shouted. I messed up on a potion and it could have bad results if I don't get water soon."->"I -- uh -- mixed up Lavender for Fox Gloves and now I could be poisoned."]]
[["What gives? It's just a glass of water!"<-"Listen, all I need is a glass of water. Give it to me now or I will take it."]]
The hostess nods. "You poor thing. I'll see about getting you that water. Would you mind telling me your name?"
[["It's Beth Crowley."->"How long is the wait for a table?"]]
[[Why do you need my name? I just need water."]]
[[I appreciate the effort, but I really ''don't'' want to chat. I'll just take that water."->"Listen, I don't have the time to chat. I need water. Now."]]The hostess peers over the tablet in front of her. "It'll be about an hour wait. It's brunch so there are a lot of parties here."
[["I don't have time to wait for a table. I need the water now."<-"An hour? I don't have that long."]]
[["What gives? It's just a glass of water!"<-"Why can't I just get a glass of water now?"]]
[["I -- uh -- mixed up Lavender for Fox Gloves and now I could be poisoned."<-"Listen, I made a really bad mistake and if I don't have a glass of water, really bad things are going to happen.]] The hostess shrugs. "You look like a capable young witch. Why don't you create a table from thin air and then you can have your water?"
Beth huffs. She feels a spark form in her hands.
[["Please. I need the water. I don't have time!"->"Hey...I've got an issue and I need your help."]]
[["Now if I could do that, we wouldn't be here. Believe me this is the last place I want to be."->"Is that what this is about? You're refusing to give me a water because you don't like that I'm a witch?"]]
[["Fine. We'll play this game. If you don't give me a glass of water, I'll curse you and everyone you know. Even your cow."->"You have one more try. Make my day."]]
The hostess looks down at her tablet. "I have ten parties ahead of you. I can't put you first just because you go to that fancy magic school."
Beth is taken aback.
[["What does that have to do with this?"]]
[["Is that what this is about? You're refusing to give me a water because you don't like that I'm a witch?"]]
[["Please, I really messed up -- like mixed up Lavender for Fox Gloves messed up. I don't know how long I have."->"I -- uh -- mixed up Lavender for Fox Gloves and now I could be poisoned."]]The hostess looks up from her tablet. "To put you down for a table of course. You'll have to wait an hour, but you'll have your water then."
Beth shakes her head.
[["I can't be put on the list for a table. I probably have minutes until my failed experiment takes effect."->"I don't have time to wait for a table. I need the water now."]]
[["For water?! Can't you just get me water from the tap?"->"What gives? It's just a glass of water!"]]
[["I really don't have the patience. Give me the water now or you're going to have a really bad day.->"I don't have time to wait for a table. I need the water now."]]The hostess gives a sly smile. "You don't even know the privledge you have. Just because I'm a regular mortal doesn't give you the grounds to boss me around."
[["I'm not bossing you around! I need water or I'm going to die. Maybe."]]
[["I have better things to do than to boss you around. But please, tempt me."->"You have one more try. Make my day."]]
[["I don't need to boss you around. I was being nice. Don't push it."->"There goes the last straw. Don't say I didn't warn you."]]The hostess mumbles under her breath, "You're the one who said it. Now go run off and cast spells or whatever it is you witches do."
Anger flashes through Beth. She clenches her fists.
[["If you have a bone to pick with me, do it. I have as little time as it is."->"What does that have to do with this?"]]
[["You do realize that I'm a student, right? I already mixed up Lavender with Fox Gloves. What makes you think I can fix this on my own?"->"Hey...I've got an issue and I need your help."]]
The hostess gives Beth a curious look. "So what is it? Death or is it just dramatics from a spoiled witch?"
[["It's a strong possibility it's the first one. I -- don't know what will happen if I don't get the water."->"Hey...I've got an issue and I need your help."]]
[["Dramatics?! You don't know drama until you see me perform!"->"Is that what this is about? You're refusing to give me a water because you don't like that I'm a witch?"]]
[["You have one more try. Make my day."]]The hostess moves away from her stand and walks right up to Beth. She looks Beth up and down. "No. If you don't leave the premises, I'm going to have to call the police."
[["All right, fine. I'm out. I'll have more luck talking to a wall than speak to you."]]
[["And what are you going to say? You denied the customer a water for having magic. I'm sure they'll love to hear that."]]
[["There goes the last straw. Don't say I didn't warn you."]]The hostess shifts uncomfortably. "So? They'll understand." She scoffs. "Okay, they won't. Witches aren't worth the fine they'll give me. Fine."
The hostess disappears into the door behind her. She returns with a sealed water bottle.
"Take it before I change my mind."
Beth nods and takes the water. She leaves.
[[Continue -> Potion Making]]Beth raises her hand as she speaks out an incantation. The color drains from the hostess's face.
A rain cloud appears over the hostess. It starts to rain immediately on her. Her hair and makeup are soaked. Then SNAP! A small bolt of lightning appears on her shoulder.
The hostess screams and runs out of the cafe.
Beth shrugs and goes into the door behind the hostess stand. She grabs the first water bottle she sees. She returns to the entry way where startled customers are. Beth doesn't acknowledge them as she leaves.
[[Continue-> Potion Making]] Beth storms out of the cafe in defeat. She throws her arms up in the air. She suddenly feels a tingling travel up her body. She begins to shake. It begins.
She closes her eyes and hopes that death comes to her quick.
[[Continue->Boils]]//Hm, that's odd. I still feel -- alive?//
Beth opens her eyes. She still stood outside of the cafe with her heart beating. Something was wrong though. She felt pain on her hands and face. Beth looks down at her hands.
There are large red boils on her hands. She turns around to the cafe window to see her reflection. Her face is covered in the same boils. Beth lets out a sigh of relief.
The potion only caused boils -- not death. While Beth's face didn't have the most pleasant sight, she could easily go to her campus's healing ward to get rid of the boils.
Maybe it was dramatics as the hostess suggested. Beth shrugged. She wasn't going to tell that bitter woman that.
[[Play Again!->Prologue]]Beth immediately opens the water bottle when she makes it outside. She takes in a deep breath. It's not over yet. Beth starts to recall the Healing Spell she needs.
She recites the spell and waves her fingers over the water. It slowly turns to a green color.
Beth finishes the spell. She doesn't pause as she drinks the potion.
[[Continue->Cured]]Beth feels immediate relief. Her body feels cleansed from the error that she made with her experiment. More than that, she feels grateful that she was able to get the water on time. Who knows what would have happened if she didn't?
Beth makes her way to school. She could surely investigate what would have been while in the safety of the classroom.
